Converting Tabs for Low-G Tuned ‘Ukuleles

I just received an e-mail from one of our readers. He is wondering:

“How do you go about adapting a tab/tune written for a High G uke to Low G? Do you simply shift the High G notes to the E or A string, or is it not that simple?”

Yes, all you need to do is shift the notes to the E or A string:

  • High-g tab: open G-string = Low-G ‘ukulele: third fret E-string
  • High-g: fifth fret G-string = Low-G: third fret A-string
  • High-g: second fret G-string = Low-G: open A-string

If you are using a high-g tab you will not use the low-G string except for chords.
