Ku’u Home ‘O Kahalu’u Song Sheet

like a seabird olomanaHere’s another classic that is also a great beginner song. Ku’u Home ‘O Kahalu’u by Olomana bridges the gap between contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music with mostly English words but a reoccurring hook in Hawaiian: “Me ke aloha ku’u home ‘o kahalu’u“. The original recording is keyed somewhere between Eb and E (old recordings had a tendency to be a bit off). This sheet is for the key of C, but with only three chords it is incredibly easy to transpose (my slack key player likes to play it in D).

What would be a good biginner’s strum pattern for this song Kuu-Home-O-Kahaluu?

Well, you can chalangalang it if you want (down, up). That’s easiest. Down, Down, Up, Up, Down would be a more straight feel like the recording.

Do you have any suggestions for picking patterns? I’d like to learn this song in fingerstyle.

    Thanks much!
