10 Hawaiian Picking Vamps In G

Turnaround vamps in Hawaiian music are limitless, really. They follow a certain flow, touching on key notes, but can go pretty much anywhere you want. Every ‘ukulele player has their own handful of favorites and if you work on it, you’ll come up with some of your own.

I was practicing yesterday and started quickly recording all the main vamp variations I could think of in the key of G. These are the ones I came up with in 10 minutes. There are many, many more, but this should be a nice intro list to get you used to the sound of a Hawaiian vamp on the ‘ukulele.

Whenever a vamp moves onto the G string you’ll want a low G.
