Hawai’i’s musical equivalent to the Grammys happened last night. The Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards celebrate and honor music created in the islands. It was a nice show with good performances, fun presentations, and a heavy air, remembering the musical contributions of Dennis Kamakahi and Chino Montero who we lost in this past month.
Herb Ohta Jr. won ‘Ukulele Album of the Year for his album Pure ‘Ukulele.
The Instrumental Composition of the Year went to Herb Ohta Jr. and David Kamakahi for their tune, Napili Bay.
