Rude Ukulele Chords By Magic!

rude single album cover thumbnailThere are few poppy reggae songs as fun to play as the Rude ukulele chords shown here.

The simple hit number is performed by a Canadian band called Magic! and was released as the first single from their debut album, Don’t Kill the Magic. Not a bad way to start off a recording career…

F G Am
Saturday morning, jumped out of bed and put on my best suit
F G Am
Got in my car and raced like a jet, all the way to you
F G C Am
Knocked on your door with heart in my hand, to ask you a question
F G C Am
'Cause I know that you're an old fashioned man (yeah, yeah)

Pre-Chorus:
F G
Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
C Am
Say yes,say yes,'cause I need to know
             F G
You say I'll never get your blessing ‘til the day I die
      C (Em) Am
Tough luck my friend but the answer is no!

Chorus:
F G C Am
Why you gotta be so rude? Don't you know I'm human, too?
F G C Am
Why you gotta be so rude? I'm gonna marry her anyway
F G
(Marry that girl) Marry her anyway
C Am
(Marry that girl) Yeah, no matter what you say
F G
(Marry that girl) And we'll be a family
C Am F G C
Why you gotta be so… rude?

F G C Am
I hate to do this, you leave no choice, can't live without her
F G C Am
Love me or hate me we will be both, standing at that alter
F G C Am
Or we will runaway, to another galaxy, you know
F G C Am
You know she's in love with me, she will go anywhere I go

Pre-Chorus:
F G
Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life?
C Am
Say yes,say yes,'cause I need to know
             F G
You say I'll never get your blessing ‘til the day I die
      C (Em) Am
Tough luck my friend but the answer is no!

To play the Rude ukulele chords, all you need is some practice with a reggae strum on beats 2 & 4. More about reggae strumming styles here.

The chords themselves are easy – just F, G, C, and Am throughout the song. If you want more of a challenge, try using higher voicings and a lift mute to stop the sound of each chord.

These are simplified chords for Rude. If you want to play along with the recording, simply tune your ukulele up a half step or slap a capo on the 1st fret to take you up to the key of Bbm/Db. You could also download Anytune and process the song so it sounds a half-step lower. In this way the ukulele chords you see here for Rude will match the lower pitch of the altered recording.
