Understanding the Fretboard Workshop REPLAY

This is a video replay of my 3/23/24 Zoom workshop on understanding the fretboard.

1 hour of instruction, 1/2 hour of Q&A/a performance.

*The recording is only 360p quality. This will be fixed for future workshops.

What you’ll learn:

I want to provide you with the simplest system possible to understand what is happening under and around your fingers as you play the ukulele.

We’ll start with the chromatic scale, which tells you exactly which notes are where. You’ll learn to find any note on any string with a repeating linear pattern that works anywhere.

After that, we’ll look at how the chromatic scale overlaps across the strings. This is what makes the matrix of the ukulele so confusing. You’ll learn to flow seamlessly through it and play the same note in different places.

Much fretboard knowledge is based on what the “safe” notes are in any key so you’ll also learn how to create a major (or minor) scale from scratch, starting from any note anywhere on the fretboard.

In addition to learning scales, you’ll walk away with some string transfer shapes that allow you to shift any melody or scale across the strings without needing to know the name of the note.
