AI Policy

AI is a fun and somewhat helpful tool that has serious consequences for society and the environment. Full transparency about AI usage is essential for keeping our sanity and each other in check.

I, Brad, am the expert here. A LLM can’t replace my 20 years of first-hand experience.

* The Exceptions

There are a number of areas where Memberpress, the software that I use for managing products, sales, and user access, sucks. ChatGPT has helped me code drop-in patch plugins to create or modify the features that I need.

I don’t feel too bad about this because computers creating computer code for other computers to parse somehow seems like one of few natural uses for AI. I’d rather Memberpress do this and increase the value of their product, but I’ve been begging for a lot of these features for years with no implementation.

I have sometimes used ChatGPT for brainstorming, menial office tasks like comma-separating a list of emails, or spelling/grammar checks. Currently, I have deleted my ChatGPT account and do not use AI for anything. I think this is the safest bet until we see how things shake out.
