As the web has matured, one thing has become clear: there is a lot of garbage out there.
To offset the annoyance of unsubstantial ukulele websites (which tend to be all too easy to find), here are some good resources to browse. This is content that I personally think is valuable and was created in good faith – not just trying to rank on Google.
Transcription Websites
- Dominator (TABs) – Dom’s TABs are some of the best available, focusing on transcriptions of songs by ukulele artists
- UkeEducation (TABs) – Spencer has created many solo arrangements and has a lot of great resources
- Ukulele Hunt (TABs) – Alistair has been cranking out ukulele sheets and TABs since at least 2007. Lots of punk, grunge, pop arrangements
- I Love Classical Ukulele (TABs) – Dr. Samantha Muir’s site with some original classical transcriptions available, but more impressively, a huge list of other publications that include classical pieces
- Stuart’s Ukulele Songbook – many song sheets with embedded chord diagrams and a cool progression roadmap that shows the flow of changes
- Doctor Uke – a classic collection with chord diagrams. Almost 4,000 songs
- Jim’s Ukulele Songbooks – extensive, huge PDF songbooks
- Mike Bonnice – a large collection of scans of Hawaiian jams; like looking through someone’s old kani ka pila binder!
- Capotasto (TABs) – melodies of some traditional tunes
- Huapala – Very few chords, but THE source for Hawaiian lyrics and song background.
- The Uke (TABs) – small collection of high-quality, traditional lead sheet PDF TABs
- Petey Mack – large songbook PDF of oldies, pop, etc
- Ken Middleton (TABs) – small selection of traditional/fiddle tune melodies
- Ukulele Hymn (TABs) – many TABs/chord/lyric sheets for hymns
- Moselele – 600+ original chord/lyric sheets for popular tunes
- PDF Minstrel (TABs) – a large set of classical and traditional arrangements
- New Orleans Jambook – great collection of obscure jazz tune in lead sheet form
- San Jose Ukulele Club – many popular tunes
- Shadowflare’s Ukulele (TABs) – old-school text TABs for video game theme songs
- Ukester Brown – chord/lyric sheets for oldies
- Ukucafe (TABs) – some bootleg Jake transcriptions
- Uke Jams – tons of pop and oldies
Premium Lessons
- Ukulele Corner – Jeff Peterson teaches classical and Hawaiian repertoire
- Uketropolis – James Hill
- Ukulele Underground – Aldrine Guerrero shares video lessons, a podcast, and hosts 3rd party instructors
- Learning Ukulele with Curt – a truly huge resource site with lots of lessons (free and paid), but kinda hard to navigate/use and much of it is pay-walled
- Matt Dahlberg
- The Ukulele Site – home to random tutorials from Corey, Neal, Mika, Aaron, Sarah, Craig, etc, and myself!
Forums/Communities
- Ukulele Underground – one of the consistently best options over the years
Reviews
- Got a Ukulele – Baz puts a ton of effort into regular (almost weekly) reviews of ukes
Finders/Generators
- Gootar chord finder – comprehensive chord finder for uke
- Gootar reverse chord finder – great tool for finding the name of an unknown chord fingering
- Gootar TAB generator – fast way to write text tablature
- Ukulele Buddy – probably one of the easiest to use ukulele chord finders
- Ukulele Chord – pre-fab diagrams for many chord types. Most interesting thing is the section for slack key tuning
- Chord progression generator – not sure how much is pre-programmed, but certainly an interesting way to get some inspiration for new sounds if you’re a beginner or intermediate player
